Kilner Park at a glance

Kilner Park shares the same greenbelt, to be found at the foothill of the Magaliesberg ridge, that the Pretoria National Botanical Gardens is set along.  In addition, it also lies alongside the Colbyn Wetlands, all of which makes it a particularly beautiful, serene area.  Kilner Park is further bisected by the Hartebeesspruit, which, one can imagine, acts as a wonderful attraction for prolific bird-life.  All-in-all it goes without saying that these features create a haven of calm even though the suburb is surround by a fairly busy environment.

An old, well-established, middle-class residential area which falls within the greater "Moot" area, Kilner Park brings with it that same communal feeling of old - where one could freely move around and enjoy the surroundings.  There are a number of public footpaths allowing for lovely morning and evening walks through the suburb's natural splendour, be it families with young children, the elderly, walking one's pets or going for adventurous run or cycle.

This really well-located suburb enjoys quick and easy access to the city centre of Pretoria, which is merely a 10 km drive away, and is equally well located to both the N1 and N4 highways leading out of Pretoria. Ease of access to day-to-day amenities is always a contributing factor when deciding on a location to live in and Kilner Park certainly ticks this box, perfect for young professionals, growing families and retirees alike.

Homes, especially the older family houses, still tend to reflect typical styles from a few decades ago including the highly sought-after stand sizes.  Here one can find a choice selection of accommodation types, including large houses on larger stands, some offering additional cottage and granny-flat rentals.  There are also a few blocks of flats as well as town-house complexes in between.  It is certainly worth bearing in mind that Kilner Park is a well-established, well-located middle-class area making for a good investment all-round.

CLIMATE:

Lying at the foothills on the southern side of the Magaliesberg Mountain range, Kilner Park is particularly well-sheltered against the elements, over and above the fact that it also enjoys a touch of the sub-tropical climate that is particularly prevalent just on the other side of the ridge.  During the summer months the homes, gardens and streets are well shaded, under the large old trees, from the hot summer sun.

Days warm up from early in the morning and can easily reach 30 degrees Celsius and up.  Rain takes place during summer and fortunately Pretoria is often blessed with mid to late afternoon showers, breaking the heat and leading to warm but comfortable evenings.

Winters can be quite cold during the early morning hours but generally warm up to be pleasantly comfortable for most of the day.  On the odd occasion, when temperatures become unusually low, there may be frost.

DISTANCE FROM KILNER PARK TO THE PRETORIA CBD:

  • Via Pretorius St / M2: 18 min / 11 kms
  • Via the Soutpansberg / M22 / R101:  20 min / 13 kms

MAJOR ACCESS ROUTES:

Kilner Park is literally bordered by the N1 highway - a major throughfare to and from Pretoria - and access is granted onto this highway via the Stormvoel Toll Plaza, located at the northern end of this suburb.  Additional access roads to and from Kilner Park include the Soutpansberg Road (on its western side) eventually leading onto Gordon Road which leads both toward Pretoria's city centre ane the Hatfield Gautrain Station.
