Rietfontein at a glance

Rietfontein, located in the centre of The Moot area, appears to be a choice location amongst families with school-going children. Its proximity to a wide variety of educational facilities including nursery, primary and high schools, the Tshwane University of Technology and the University of Pretoria as well as easy access to amenities that accommodate day-to-day living seems to be the driving force behind this trend.

A well-established, middle-class and older-styled suburb, Rietfontein lies on the southern side of the Magaliesberg Mountain range, comfortably out of the city centre of Pretoria but with a scenically beautiful belt of greenery from the mountain ridge as a backdrop.

Rietfontein offers a fair selection of properties and serves both the buyers' market as well as short, and long-term, rentals.  Options include older, larger houses on equally sized stands, smaller houses displaying modern architecture, a large number of flats and apartments, complexes and town-houses.  With its origins from farmlands to small-holdings and eventually the development of Rietfontein into a suburb, a number of properties still come with boreholes.  Notably, there is increased development in new, secure, affordable and well-located accommodation based on increased demands for such options. 

Additional communal attractions to Rietfontein include the numerous public parks as well as the Wonderboom Nature Reserve which makes for a lovely, recreational family outing.

CLIMATE:

Lying at the foothills on the southern side of the Magaliesberg Mountain range, Rietfontein is particularly well-sheltered against the elements, over and above the fact that it also enjoys a touch of the sub-tropical climate that is particularly prevalent just on the other side of the ridge.  During the summer months the homes, gardens and streets are well shaded, under the large old trees, from the hot summer sun. 

Days warm up from early in the morning and can easily reach 30 degrees Celsius and up.  Rain takes place during summer and fortunately Pretoria is often blessed with mid to late afternoon showers, breaking the heat and leading to warm but comfortable evenings. 

Winters can be quite cold during the early morning hours but generally warm up to be pleasantly comfortable for most of the day.  On the odd occasion, when temperatures become unusually low, there may be frost.

• Via the M2: 17 min / 8.5 kms

MAJOR ACCESS ROUTES:

Rietfontein has four main access roads including Codonia Avenue to the east and Steve Biko to the west both of which lead to Pretoria's centre and then Meyer Street to the north and Nico Smit to the south which also leads to the N1 Highway just a short drive away with access via the Stormvoël Toll Plaza.
