Silver Lakes Golf Estate at a glance

Silverlakes, located in Pretoria East, started as a single residential and golfing estate in the late 1990s.  It was developed for the higher income-class resident looking for a secure, private and outdoor, natural setting.  Silverlakes Golf and Wildlife Estate is now well-established and over time a number of similar and varying estates have been developed as part of the greater Silverlakes area. 

Just off Grahame Road and Solomon Mahlangu Drive, as one drives into the greater Silverlakes area, there is an almost instant awareness of the well-maintained natural and perhaps even bushveld landscape, where both fauna and flora have been well retained.  Yet, only a few kilometers to the west and same to the south, residents can access all and any amenity that may be required.  It is also obvious that particular attention has been paid in ensuring that extended developments maintain a similar look and feel creating great harmony to the area.

Over recent years a number of facilities have been developed around Silverlakes for easy access to day-to-day requirements.  These include Hazeldean Square, Hazeldean Intercare, office parks and In Shere across from Grahame Road for restaurants, health & beauty and a lovely selection of curio stores.  Further to the east are additional estate developments such as Lombardi and schools including Curro Hazeldean, Tygervallei, Tyger Valley, CVO and Sparks Silverlakes.  Beyond that are mostly small-holdings and natural areas with a selection of entertainment facilities where the natural environment has been well integrated allowing for the perfect setting for a weekend outing.

It should be mentioned that one of the core attractions around which The Silverlakes Golf Estate was developed is the championship 18-hole golf course, designed by Peter Matkovich who displays a particular flair for integrating water design features to the course.  Residents on and around this estate therefore enjoy the added benefit of access to a world-class golf course which has also helped to attract an actively beautiful birdlife to the area!

CLIMATE:

As per the rest of Pretoria East, Silverlakes enjoys a subtropical climate with hot summer days, warm evenings and summer rains, mainly during the months September to April.  Winters are shorter and dry, generally comfortable but with a few scattered and intensely cold snaps in between.  Although Silverlakes is located fairly close to the Bronberg ridge, it falls on a flatter and slightly more exposed landscape than many of its neighbouring Pretoria East suburbs, so it sometimes receives frost on really cold mornings.  The subtropical climate allows for the fairly quick and easy growth of plants and trees - a gardener's dream.

MAIN ACCESS ROUTES:

The main access routes to and from Silverlakes are Lynnwood / Grahame Road and Solomon Mahlangu Drive.  Lynnwood Road also allows access onto the N1 highway while Solomon Mahlangu Drive leads to the N4 highway - which is also one of the main routes toward the Pretoria CBD. 

Although Silverlakes enjoys quick and easy access to these surrounding roads and highways and is well located to most amenities as well as its neighbours such as Equestria, Wapadrand and Faerie Glen, there can be a fair amount of traffic to contend with around normal peak time traffic hours.
