Villieria at a glance

Villieria is one of Pretoria's older suburbs and lies north east of the city centre, at the southern foothills of the Magaliesberg Mountain range. It is a middle-class suburb and a fairly small community but filled with the charm of old, retaining many of its contemporary styled homes, set on significantly larger-sized properties and amidst well established, beautiful, gardens and large old trees. The attraction of many of the homes, when one steps inside, is that the once fashionably pressed ceilings and blocked wooden floors have been kept, creating that true homely feeling.

Villieria, one might say, offers an infusion of many characteristics, be it the blend of English and Afrikaans or an undertone of traditional and older-fashioned trends, which has managed to intrigue and draw in a more modern culture.  One can enjoy a slow browse through a variety of antique and second-hand stores or a curb-side morning coffee or pizza for lunch.  Homes are predominantly older in style with a smaller choice of the more modern styled townhouse complexes, simplexes and houses.

With its core amenities in place, anything more, that one may require, is available within quick access to any of the neighbouring suburbs, such as Waverley, Rietfontein, Gezina and Rietondale.

CLIMATE:

With the Magaliesberg Mountain range as its backdrop, Villieria enjoys a full day's sunlight and a fair amount of protection.  It also shares in the sub-tropical climate as is prevalent throughout most of Tshwane and during the summer months Villieria's streets are lined with large trees and leafy green gardens with the particularly beautiful scatterings of Jakarandas during the month of October.

Summer days warm up from early in the morning and can easily reach 30 degrees Celsius and up.  Rain takes place during summer and fortunately Pretoria is often blessed with mid to late afternoon showers, breaking the heat and leading to warm but comfortable evenings.  Winters can be quite cold during the early morning hours but generally warm up to be pleasantly comfortable for most of the day.  On the odd occasion, when temperatures become unusually low, there may be frost.

MAJOR ACCESS ROUTES:

Villieria is bordered by two main access roads including Codonia Avenue to the east and Frates Road to the west, with fairly easy access to both the N1 and N4 highways.  Hatfield Gautrain station is a short distance from Villieria.
